The second wave of UEFA's midweek programme delivered 90 goals across 35 finished matches in the Europa League and Conference League on Thursday. Ajax posted the night's biggest win in Denmark, Ferencvaros stunned AC Milan at San Siro, and Celtic edged a five-goal thriller against Besiktas.

Storylines of the night

Ajax hit six in Denmark. Ajax produced the biggest win of the night, beating FC Midtjylland 6–1 in Herning. Tolu Arokodare struck twice (9', 52'), Owen Wijndal (59'), Davy Klaassen (67'), Oscar Gloukh (74') and Marcos Leonardo (82') added one each, with Friday Etim's 28th-minute goal the only reply from the hosts. It was the only win by five goals or more on a night when most ties stayed tight.

Ferencvaros stunned AC Milan. Ferencvaros produced the night's surprise result, beating AC Milan 2–0 at San Siro. Lenny Joseph scored both goals (52', 66') as the Hungarian side kept a clean sheet against the Italian hosts, who could find no way back after falling behind early in the second half.

Celtic edged a five-goal thriller. Celtic beat Besiktas 3–2 in Glasgow in a game that swung three times in the second half. Junior Olaitan put the visitors ahead in the 54th minute, Callum Osmand levelled eight minutes later, and Camilo Durán put Celtic in front in the 78th. Orkun Kökçü equalised in the 85th minute, only for Durán to strike his second two minutes later and settle it.

Late goals decided the night. Torreense scored twice in stoppage time — Javier Vazquez (90'+3') and Musa Drammeh (90'+5') — to turn a 2–1 deficit into a 3–2 win over Ararat-Armenia, while Daichi Kamada's 90'+1' equaliser rescued a 1–1 draw for Crystal Palace against Hoffenheim. Juventus won 2–1 at AZ Alkmaar through Teun Koopmeiners (19') and Randal Kolo Muani (37'), with Mexx Meerdink's 88th-minute reply coming too late for the hosts. Marseille also won late on the road, Amine Gouiri scoring the only goal in the 77th minute at Bayer Leverkusen, while Benfica beat Lech Poznan 3–1 at home.

England's clubs took points on the road. Bournemouth won 3–1 at Sparta Prague, with Tyler Adams (57'), Evanilson (81') and Rayan (90') overturning Ebrima Singhateh's 35th-minute opener, and Brighton & Hove Albion won 1–0 at Getafe thanks to Malick Yalcouyé's 64th-minute goal. Elsewhere, NEC Nijmegen beat Omonia Nicosia 3–1 with Bryan Linssen scoring twice (50', 76'), Union St.-Gilloise won 2–1 at Celta Vigo through a Besfort Zeneli double (35', 49'), and NK Celje won 3–2 at Sturm Graz: Svit Seslar scored twice (29', 73') and Benjamin Verbič added a third in the 45th minute, while Oumar Diakité's brace (40', 90'+3') was not enough for the hosts.

Panathinaikos left it late at home. Panathinaikos beat CSKA Sofia 2–1 in Athens, with Vicente Taborda scoring the winner in the 68th minute after Davide Calabria (41') and Dinis Almeida (44') had traded goals late in the first half. FC Thun beat Heart of Midlothian 3–1 and FC Twente beat Pafos by the same score, while seven matches ended level, including Real Sociedad 1–1 Lyon and two goalless draws, AGF 0–0 Braga and KuPS Kuopio 0–0 KAA Gent. FC Lugano won 3–0 at home to Kauno Zalgiris, AS Monaco beat FC Nordsjælland 2–0, and Lincoln Red Imps won 1–0 at home to Hajduk Split through an 89th-minute own goal from Dennis Hadzikadunic.

What it means / What to watch next

The big away wins put Ajax, Ferencvaros and Union St.-Gilloise in strong positions, while the draws for Lyon and Braga keep those sections open. The next matchday will test whether the free-scoring sides can keep momentum against tighter defences — and whether Celtic can turn their late winner into a winning run.
