The second wave of UEFA's midweek programme lit up Thursday with 117 goals across 36 matches in the Europa League and Conference League. Panathinaikos ran riot in Kazakhstan, Real Sociedad posted a six-goal haul in Norway, and Stade Rennais twice came from behind to earn a 2–2 draw at Juventus.

Storylines of the night

Panathinaikos ran riot in Kazakhstan. The Greek side beat Kairat Almaty 5–1 on the road, the night's most complete away display. Cyriel Dessers struck twice (24', 47'), Vicente Taborda opened the scoring after six minutes, and Erik Palmer-Brown (45'+1'), Kings Kangwa (57', 77') and Elmin Rastoder (75') completed the rout. Erkin Tapalov, Aleksandr Mrynskiy and Ismail Bekbolat found the net for the hosts, but the tie was never in doubt once Dessers added his second.

Real Sociedad posted a six-goal haul. The Spanish side thrashed Lillestrom 6–0 in Norway, the biggest margin of the Europa League night. AZ Alkmaar were nearly as ruthless, winning 4–0 away at Ararat-Armenia, while Union St.-Gilloise beat Hapoel Be'er Sheva 4–0 and Benfica won 4–1 at Omonia Nicosia.

Rennes twice came from behind in Turin. Stade Rennais earned a point from a 2–2 draw at Juventus after answering both home goals: Mousa Al-Tamari (15') and a Boulaye Dia penalty (43') cancelled out strikes from Zeki Çelik (5') and a Nick Woltemade penalty (67'). Juventus had led twice and still could not close the game out.

England's clubs mixed fortunes. AFC Bournemouth beat AC Milan 3–0, the cleanest statement of the night for a Premier League side in Europe. But Celtic lost 1–2 at home to Celta Vigo, Crystal Palace were held 2–2 at Besiktas, and Brighton & Hove Albion played out a goalless draw at Jablonec. Sunderland drew 1–1 at Lech Poznan in the Europa League, and in the Conference League Ajax beat Atalanta 2–0, AS Monaco swept SC Freiburg 3–0, and Braga beat KAA Gent 2–0.

What it means / What to watch next

The big away wins put AZ Alkmaar, Real Sociedad and Panathinaikos in early control of their sections, while the draws for Juventus and Celtic keep those races open. Next matchday will test whether the goal-heavy sides can keep momentum against tighter defences — and whether Rennes can turn their Turin comeback into a winning run.
